In the English speaking world the word ‘Statute’ usually only refers to a written law that has achieved legal assent, usually through a legislature. In the private organizations of the EU (including corporations and charities) it is commonplace to refer to the rules governing their internal running as ‘Statues’. It is for this reason that we have translated the Croatian word Statut as ‘Statute’ and not as ‘Charter’ or something similar.
